Here,Hold My Beer and Watch...

by Reese Turner

“Here, hold my beer and watch…”
Now, there’s a verbal tradition!
Spoken by those more foolish than brave
Who, full of libation, seem on a mission!

Another: “What could go wrong?”
Ignoring insurmountable odds,
In trying to inject some ironic twist
To plans which might irritate gods.

Or, “Why not, it’s for a good cause?” Oh?
That’s a favorite of those who want cash;
“It’s for the children, they’re our future!”
See, with that coup de grace, they bash!

“New and Improved!” Really? How so?
“While supplies last!” Another big lie!
“Hurry, last chance”, or rug dealers
Et al, claim “Closing” so we must buy.

But the most dangerous of phrases,
That question which “Wrote the book”
On common sentences most to avoid:
“Honey, honestly, how do I look?”
