Dust Clouds Swallowed Them

Sam Howard invested his soul, planted corn, built a sturdy log cabin, one big room. For what? So he and Janet could watch black dust clouds sweep crops into the next county? So they could swallow dust and choke? Sam tried so hard. Beaten, they loaded up, fled to California.

I read many accounts of the Dust Bowl times. Such hard times. They ended up with nothing but clothes on their back -- packed a car and drove to California to pick crops. Thanks to av murray for the art.
