An imagined dialogue about Trojan war.
Ares and Eirene
"Reversed must be this disgraceful ploy,
that's brought war between Greece and Troy,
ending this fighting once and for all,
before either is brought to ruin or fall."
"My dear Eirene, it's now far too late,
of that I don't have to debate.
You see, it's no longer left to me;
therefore just let whatever is to come be."
"You know that I always strive for peace,
so Ares, this war, it must cease.
Helen must to Troy, now be returned,
before both Greece and Troy to the ground are burned."
"Relax now, my upholder of peace,
as hostilities may increase;
for behold there stands the Trojan horse,
and concealed within its belly an armed force."
"There must be something to stop this war.
Help from you in this, I implore,
as men no longer listen to me.
It seems they've turned from all sensibility."
"I know on war we'll never agree;
however, between you and me,
while you seek for this war to end,
you must know another one's bound to begin."
"Yes, sadly I know this to be true,
but I will make a deal with you.
Give me the word, if you'll agree
to grant peace its rightful opportunity."
"Though credit for this I'd like to take'
the resolve is not mine to make;
as I can tell you do realize
that it is with mankind that peace or war lies."
"Then I must for them peace, somehow gain,
so war in them won't be ingrained."
"Do whatever you thus so desire.
As for me, I'll do my best to stoke the fire."
