The jest of love

by Sergeant Floyd

There's a wind but not on earth
that can blow away my heavy heart.
There's a garment but not of wool or silk
that, at some other time, I will put on.
My own skin
when it can sing in the bones again.
When the sun becomes warm again.
Water wet and snow cold.

I am a beggar giving.
I am a drum tinkling.
Wheat of a wild reed.
A wrong ending, a worse beginning.

Air that can not be exhaled.
A fight to the life.
A mewing cow.
A shiftless dog.
A permanent frost.
My right side up is upside down.

Two trains on a parallel track.
I'm always coming when you're leaving.
Falling asleep when you're waking.
Crying when you are laughing.
Stopping when you are starting.

Drowned at baptism.
Coddled by wolves.
Bare moon like a bare cold shoulder.
Why we mourn.
All good toasts to the jest of love.
