A reflection on life

She's So Much Like Her Mum

by bob cullen

An old man's life is lonely, and no one seems to care.
They say I have a temper just like an angry bear.
But they don't know my story, and listening's not their go.
And when I am in trouble, they just don't want to know.

I have a long mem'ry, there are things I can't forget.
Then there are others, to whom I'll always be in debt.
And of course, there were strangers who helped along the way.
Lessons they imparted, are beyond what I can pay.

The wisdom of my parents, the gifts they taught to me.
Like discipline and honour, be the best I could be.
Never whinge 'bout injustice, 'cause life ain't always fair.
Don't quit because you're losing or give in to despair.

Best part of this life battle is finding your true mate.
Not knowing what might happen, then trusting in your fate.
Preparing for tomorrow, and all your life to come.
No fearing for the future, she's so much like her mum.

Now I am just an old man, and no one seems to care.
Every time I'm in trouble, she is always there.
Now it's my daughter who corrects, stupid things I've done.
Chasing after her father, she's so much like her mum.
