Word Smushes - A Pet Peeve

by Rachelle Allen

"ThankYouSoMuch.You'reTheBest"
This smush puts my patience to the test.

I know you don't mean it;
you say it to all.
I hate such word smushes!
They're borderline gall.

Please just say, "Thank you."
THAT is sincere!
No need to embellish;
your point is quite clear.

And don't ever say,
"Okay,LoveYou,Bye."
When that's said as a smush,
it's a stick in my eye.

Think what you're saying!
It's supposed to convey
emotions, devotion,
Not, 'oh, by the way.'

Maybe, with age,
I've become a curmudgeon.
The intent with these smushes
was never to bludgeon.

But neither should words
take flight without thought.
When spoken with meaning,
sweet joys they have brought.

So think, as you're talking
and doing and rushing:
Are you someone guilty
of thoughtless word smushing?
