Our native birds

Unique Avians

by Aussie

Kookaburra sits, watches from tree
He starts laughing loud as can be
Bell bird call across valley lane
Mushroom clouds herald rain

Whip bird answers whip - crack for more
Tops of canopy they take flight and soar
Sulfur-crested cockatoos amazing sight
Cacophony of birds wheeling bright

Droplets of water soaking rain forest floor
Rivers from mountains rumble and roar
Kookaburra shakes his feathers tight
Natures raincoat covers his plight

Sighted a snake for dinner; diving fast
Bashed that snake, broken at last
Dinner for three that special attack
In the blink of an eye, snake meant snack

So many beautiful birds in rain forest live
From tiny finches flying the breeze
Some visit us now and then; please
Our native birds, unique, hearts do seize.
