Pain of Rain on Soccer Plain

by Reese Turner

When I’m weary of talking the talk,
I leave the house to take a walk.
No matter which way I might go
There are new things to see and so…
Today I ambled toward the park
Where children play and small dogs bark.
A soccer game had drawn a crowd -
As players played, the crowd was loud!
Now, soccer’s a game I don’t like much;
With hands, the ball, players may not touch.
But, crowds of parents I watch for fun
As they watch their kids kick and run.
Today was special because rain came,
Which stopped not the soccer game.
Sloshing on, the players played.
Umbrellas or not, their parents stayed.
Parenting can be a double pain;
Forced to watch soccer in the rain!

Today's Walk contest entry

Having done local field and radio calling of some kid's sports games, I am sure that watching the parents of those kids is the real entertainment! That's why this moment caught my fancy
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
