Shards

by June Sargent

Like shards of glass words pierce the soul,
propelled by anger towards their goal.
Restraint can let the moment pass.
Words pierce the soul like shards of glass.

While young our children we must teach
with tender words their hearts to reach,
to show the proper use of tongue.
Our children we must teach while young.

We get what measure we dole out.
And when we learn what life's about,
our own sins we will soon regret.
What measure we dole out, we get.
