Life in the darkness

Absence of Light

by Miss Sherry

Branches twist themselves
into the bony knuckles of old men
They scrape the window
making sounds like fingernails
thrummed across chalkboards

Shadow-dancers of the moon
twirl recklessly around,
knocking heads at the back fence

A night of Poe,
slick with darkness that pokes
its fingers into
the careless moonglow,
swirling cloud in a shower of shadows

Poetic thunder, deep-voiced and strong
rolls in from the east, its aria sweet with rain

Lightening boldly boasts
of its prowess -- sentences ended
with fiery exclamation points

Night leaks like silver syrup,
making final bows and curtain calls
as sunrise awaits its cue

Night is a beautiful thing.
