Love so needed so cursed

The Game

My heart a helium balloon
bumped around looking for you
so I needed what you had to give

Never had I ever been so consumed
by which I mean you consumed me
like a moth kept wrapped in a cocoon

I'd have done what I was told
anything for you
so intoxicating to me

Whispered sweet words in my ear
that spoke to me what I needed to hear
my savior protector lover friend
generous kind a real man

One day I cried you called me a crocodile
when you banged my head
In your eyes I looked for love
but found indifference instead

Last to know of another girl
Did you give to her
the love you took from me?

Soon I walked on eggshells
might as well have been
shards of glass
for all the pain I tried to mask

I needed you to whisper sweet lies
I didn't know of a time before us
I lost myself in you

But how quick love
spins around
now I deplore you
with the same intensity
I adored you

I thought I was enough
I didn't understand your game
I was never enough

You didn't even notice but
one day I walked away

You did not ask me to go
somehow I found
the grace to leave
