A Dandizette Potlatch Challenge

My Uncut Diamond

by June Sargent

The average man claims he knows
what any girl desires -
in addition to fancy clothes -
emeralds, rubies and sapphires.
Like a queen of old days,
glitz and bling are what she requires.

But the man who will earn my praise
is a man who aspires
to improve himself in small ways.
Determined to just forge ahead
onto trails he can blaze -
this is the man I chose to wed.

What any girl desires,
like a queen of old days,
is a man who aspires
onto trails he can blaze.
He who did not try to impress
won my heart, I have to confess
