One little boy's dream to follow Dad

Just Like Dad

by Connie C

Someday when I become a man,
I know just what I want to be.
I'll be a builder, that's my plan.
I'll be like Dad, just wait and see.

I'm only four, but check this out.
I built a birdhouse on my own.
When people see it, they will doubt
that I could build this all alone.

I studied shapes of all the wood
inside the kit that Mom gave me.
Dad offered help and thought I should
accept, but I did not agree.

My birthday's soon, and all I ask
is more wood kits to build again.
I just can't wait for my next task.
I'll maybe let my Dad join in.

I'll build a house someday, like Dad,
when I am grown with family.
My parents, then, will still have had
my birdhouse hanging in their tree.

This is a picture of my grandson, Jack, who was rather proud of this birdhouse he built all by himself. For his birthday this coming week, I have gotten him another kit with three things to build of wood. Jack's dad is very much into building houses.
