Artistic Aspirations

Yesterday, while perusing Half Price Books, I bought a book, titled, Everyone Can Draw. I’m going to give it a shot—see if the author is telling the truth.

I have often wished I could illustrate my stories.  I used to try. First graders could do better.  But now that I know everybody can…

My father started painting with oils at seventy.  I would never attempt oils, but who knows?  Maybe the apple (that would be moi) didn’t fall far from the tree. (then again…)

Speaking of trees, that is what actually sold me on this book.  Upon opening it, the first thing I saw was a single-lined drawing of a tree.  Then it progressed with shading and adding realistic touches.  And voila!  I was hooked.

I love trees.  On my small, garden home property, I have three gorgeous oaks, which at the moment are shamelessly and recklessly shedding leaves all over everywhere, making a huge mess – especially in my pool.  However, like a parent, I still love them. (the trees)

A few years ago, I bought my granddaughter a drawing table and stool. The perfect thing. I called my daughter and asked if I could borrow it as my granddaughter is away at college.  They sold it.

In my office/den/room where I write, I have a portable keyboard (which I don’t play very well) on an adjustable stand. If I remove the keyboard maybe I could use a laminate table top on the stand.  Shirley there is somewhere that sells table tops?  I Googled them and they have two sizes, but both need to be secured to a base.  So, I looked up drawing tables.  There are all kinds, sizes and prices.  For someone who isn’t far past drawing stick figures, I don’t want to jump the gun, here, expense-wise, in case in trying to do more than stick figures I realiser mes limites.  I’ll think of something.

After I have finished my first effort – well, probably not my first, I may submit it in a post on Fan Story, and ya’ll can monitor my progress.  It depends, of course, if I do progress.  If I don’t, we’ll just pretend that the drawing effort was a figment of my imagination.  Deal?
