The Awdl Gynt

by Dolly'sPoems

A spot appeared, I wondered why,
I didn’t cry or sob.
Mum was concerned, as time went by,
I sighed when my throat throbbed.
A few more spots, my eye had spied,
now covered by red blobs outside,
I saw my face and nearly died,
by measles I’d been mobbed!

Another poem for my childrens poetry book.

The awdl gynt rhyme scheme. The poem is divided into 'cycles'. Each cycle is in three parts: 1. A quatrain of alternating iambic tetrameter/trimeter (common metre), 2. A tercet of iambic tetrameter. 3. A single line of iambic trimeter. The form relies on cross rhyme on given syllables in addition to end rhyme. In the graphic diagram below each syllable is represented by a letter. Syllables marked 'x' are not required to rhyme, elsewhere like syllables rhyme. Near rhyme and assonance are acceptable.
