Cell Service

by Chip Kuzborski

Voyeurs, exhibitionists, addicts, these folks
What devices must think of us
Craning, draining, and sharing bad jokes
Tapping on screens to discuss
Thriving in a technological nexus
Flush with a swanky iPhone XS
Couldn't we manage with a modest 6 Plus?

Beholden to an umbilical tether
Almighty when the battery light's green
Look, we can tell you the weather
In Baltimore or Aberdeen
Apps, games, and total access
We can even pay our friggin' taxes
Our reliance is borderline obscene

So, these unwitting pawns in our world
Serve us through function and design
As our inner selves are unfurled
They hear us boast, curse, and whine
But we give them relief
Comical but brief
When we send a text to a landline
