What you fear maybe what saves you
Lost In A Dream
by Yvon
I just took a little pill that my mother gave me. The doctor said it's to kill the monsters in my head. They are scaring me every night. Nightmares, I'm told. That pill doesn't seem to work. I call out to mother but she's not there. No one is. Where did they go? Was there a pill?
Someone shuts a door behind me. A lock clicks. I run towards it but I am too late the door won't budge. I hear laughter from the other side it gets fainter then is no longer there.
Something that is big and blue, is near me. I don't know what it is only that it's blue. I scream for help.
I can hear my screams echo. It's become dark, oh so dark. The blueness I fear I can no longer see but I know it's there, it always is. I run to get away from it but I bang my head on something that feels like a rock. It hurts, I'm bleeding! There's blood dripping off the tip of my nose.
I think I'm in a cave. There's a moldy smell that itches me all over. How did I get here? I feel around for an opening, my feet are wet. Mommy knows I don't like wet feet. Ohhh... Where is she?
I feel my way around a corner, a little light is there. As it gets brighter giant shadows follow me. I turn back to see them getting bigger. They're not me? I'm not those shadows! They move when I'm standing still. Oh no, Help!
From somewhere a giant fly lands on a window sill that magically appears. It has big shining eyes of blue but different from the blue presence I feel. This thing is ugly and tries to mesmerize me. It stares into my eyes and doesn't move. Mommy laughs from behind me at my fear of this fly. But it's big, bigger than I am. As my mother comes closer to me the fly gets smaller, until it's just a bug. I turn to hug my mother but she's not there.
I go to where I think she went but I'm still in the cave. I turn away from the shadows cast upon the walls. I walk towards the light at the end of this tunnel but I'm going nowhere. With each step I take the tunnel gets longer.
Mother. Where are you? Without an answer I keep walking. It seems I've been walking towards that light for many years and still the blueness follows me.
I decide to turn around and face this blue entity that has shadowed me. I reach out to touch it, I no longer feel fear. I realize this blueness in my dreams is my mother. She smiles at me and says, "I have always known where you are. You have never been lost."

Thank you jgrace the artwork is great. When I was a kid I had night terrors. For some reason I recall a blue orb being there. What it was I don't know. I never let my parents know about these dreams. They eventually went away. I was never given any pills.
