Winter Woes

by Cindy Warren

I'm desperate for scents of spring on the breeze
Buds and pussy willows on the trees
Grasses and ponds warmed by the sun
Bunnies and squirrels that jump and run.

I need the snow to be gone from the ground
And to have flowers blooming all around
Swift spring streams flowing in their beds
and flocks of robins bobbing their heads.

But I look out my window at wind driven snow
With chills from that wind it's forty below
Woe upon woe, I see my tire is flat
I phone AMA cause I need help with that.

With so many breakdowns they say there's no way
That anyone could fix that tire today.
With cars and their people stranded all over the land
Emergencies come first, I must understand.

I curl on the couch and cuddle my cat
Snack upon spring rolls and make myself fat
Trying not to be grouchy I spend the next hours
Dreaming of sunshine, robins and flowers.
