About a Half an Hour Ago

by Bill Schott

About a half an hour ago,
Bert took down a buffalo;
cleverly he laid in wait,
denying bison better fate.

Every other time he'd tried,
Felix was there by his side;
getting all their buff'lo tools:
hacksaw, fish net, bobbin spools.
Incidentals also brought,
just in case "What Hath God Wrought!"
knelled from either's threatened throat:
li'l rattle snakes and antidote.

Mournfully I tell this now,
noble Felix killed a cow;
overtly in the bright of day a
peed off bull made Felix pay.
Quiet please, yes, that was that,
raw deal for Felix, flattened flat.

So, now back to the current tale,
telling of our Bert's travail;
unless I've bored you; talked too long,
vocalizing Bertum's song.
Well, now to make a story short,
Xavier, my partner, will report,
"Yesterday we heard it said --
Z
ZZZZZZ -- Oh, excuse me. Where was I? Oh, yes. The buffalo Bert took down is dead."
