A poem about letting go

Through The Door

by jmshumate

A first love kept is rare to find, why did you leave us far behind?
Breaking into my loveless heart, you gained my trust right from the start.

You boldly walked through Heaven's door.

Ran off and married one winter day, giving you my seed now there to stay. Together we grew and made our home, I never would leave you all alone.

You boldly walked through Heaven's door.

Difficult pregnancy came our way, you wanted more than all her to stay.
Bed rest said doctor or she won't grow, baby's room ready and set to go.

You boldly walked through Heaven's door.

I took you in with labor pains, our winter day finally came.
Our long wait coming to a close, in loving hands her name we chose.

You boldly walked through Heaven's door.

Squeezed my hand did you ever so tight, but would not leave us without a fight.
Soul trying to leave with one last breath, I in twelve hours held you in your death.

You boldly walked through Heaven's door.

Our baby girl that day arrived, God made sure she was born alive.
What would I do my first love gone, for our baby girl life went on.

You boldly walked through Heaven's door.

Time went by now sixteen years, in my soul still linger tears.
In our baby girl I'm so proud, I think of you in winter clouds.

You boldly walked through Heaven's door.

God restored my heart for a new love, He saw enough pain far from above.
Together these two have grown to bond, our baby girl knows her now as mom.

You boldly walked through Heaven's door.

Today God told me it's now ok, tears left in my heart He wiped away.
Looking back I will no longer do, my new love needs me apart from you.

You boldly walked through Heaven's door.
