A chapter in the book A Potpourri of Poetic Curiosities

Lunch with Liz and Phil

by CD Richards

It seems there's been an oversight,
the Queen and Prince, I think just might
have overlooked my 'invite' to their lunch;

for of this fact I am quite sure,
there's no one they would rather more
see at their place, enjoying Christmas brunch.

If you think otherwise, you're kidding,
I'll soon receive my piper's-bidding—
away with you and your mistaken hunch!

Today's word: piper's-bidding (n.) a last-minute invitation.

My much-treasured Christmas present for 2017 is a book by Paul Anthony Jones: "The cabinet of linguistic curiosities". Each page contains a descriptive story about some obscure or archaic word. It occurred to me it would be a fun exercise to try and write, each day, a poem featuring the "word of the day" from the book.

Thanks for reading.
