summing up my evolution

Live and Learn

by Helena Frances

I don't recall my arrival. From the very beginning, I wasn't observant of details. I generally did what I was told; colored within the lines, smiled politely. Sat up straight in the church pew and routinely confessed imaginary sins...until I didn't.

When I wasn't struck by a lightening bolt as retribution for missing Sunday Mass, I began to reconsider my inherited belief system.

Later I was active in a similar, but more welcoming church than my original religion. I eventually became disillusioned again, when the hierarchy judged others, and excluded them until they "sinned" no more.

I'm a spiritual being having a human experience. I'm frequently challenged by my fellow humans and my reaction to them.

I talk with the God of my deeper understanding. We laugh about my growth spurts and stagnant times.

I'm a work in progress, and I'm progressing.
