Love Lost

He never said he loved the woman,
their bodies never touched.
Yet she could see it in his eyes,
he loved this girl so much.

They had never met together,
of that much she could tell.
Yet deep inside a heavy heart
a secret love could dwell.

He treated her with kindness,
never leaving her alone.
Yet his touch on her was different,
lacking passion he'd once shown.

She wished that he would scream at her,
or maybe call her names.
Anything would be better,
than playing the "stoic" game.

Part of her wanted him to leave,
the other part have him stay.
Her shattered heart was torn apart,
there were no words to say.

She felt betrayed, though he did no wrong,
he'd never walk away.
But knowing how his love had died,
she wouldn't let him stay.

A knife was twisting in her heart,
as she sent him out the door.
The house, the air, the whole wide world
would be different then before.

When memories refuse to fade
and love runs far too deep,
then empty days are all that's left,
and night's devoid of sleep.
