Thoughts Can Deceive

by giovannimariatommaso

How could you do what you did to me?

You appeared so nice it almost killed me.

I threw you a spare & you threw me a strike,

we hugged each other & danced all night, only

to have you leave me up in the air, as if love,

were somehow there, though we both knew it,

that it was only friendship, or so I had thought.

It just goes to show you how curved a foul ball

can be, for even after the game the whole team

went out & mixed as a group to carouse & shout.

You ordered your meal, veal, I think; & I got the

heel, & it did stink as I sat myself down to think

this can't really be happening, can it? One minute

everything's fine & dandy & the next because of a

hair, is as screwball as it ever was. Love's in the air?

Friendship should be dearer than any other love! It

shouldn't hold any secrets of any kind & it shouldn't

strive to compete for worldly conceits that fly away

like so much vapor into thin air never to be reclaimed

o, what a shame, for your blindness deceives you.

The dearest love is friendship, for it holds no punches & is always true without worldly constraints or blinded by the passions of corrupt & distorted competition between the sexes or pandered to, by personal political aims of lawlessness & sanctity; the two, are incompatible.
