There is a refuge within our own mind!

The Voice Within

by A. Willow Bends

In solitude's rare moments
where silence whispers weak.
A conscience strains to listen
to the words the mind must speak.
To meditate, to contemplate,
a thought, a word, a deed,
to turn a page within our soul
and dare to boldly read.
To introduce our outward self
to the hermit hid within,
to discover who we really are,
it is there we must begin.

Although we may sit all alone,
alone we'll never be.
The voice within us rambles on.
We're never really free.
We'd like to often hush the words,
to dull the muffled sound,
of the banter that our conscience brings,
yet it's wonders still abound.
As a running clock ticks endlessly,
so does thought process run.
Should it stop, then so might we.
Our life song would be sung.

So blessed is the refuge
we find within our mind
and oddly reassuring
all answers, we can't find.
If questions were all answered,
what then to hush the sound,
of the crying, laughing, singing voice
within that holds it's ground?
