Had to suddenly euthanize my dog last week.
If I had known
IF I HAD KNOWN...
If I had known what was going to happen to you on that day, I would have done things very differently...
I would not have tried to sneak by you as you were sleeping so I could have 5 minutes to drink my coffee.
I would have spent the whole day with you, lounging in the couch and feeding your favorite treats.
I would have made your last walk longer and been more patient as you smelled every blade of grass and blowing leaf.
I would have gazed in to your soulful brown eyes and told you a million times how much I loved you.
I would have rubbed your belly until you smiled and your ears until you groaned in delight.
I would have rested your head on my lap and not moved until you were ready to get up.
But on that horrible day, all I could do was cradle you and hold back my tears so you would not be afraid.
I wrapped my body around yours as you drifted in to endless peace.
Finally, I allowed myself to weep uncontrollably that you were really gone.
My heart aches from the emptiness from the part of it you took with you.
The pain and heartbreak still peaks out from any memory that I am reminded of everyday.
Some day though, I know we will meet again at the Rainbow Bridge and you and I will begin a new journey of unending memories!
