Dunbar wanted to go to the edges of the frontier cause he hoped to still find a sense of freedom there.
The world he knows has gone crazy , he wants to excape all that chaos and madness and find peace out there ,in that still uncontaminated land and be his own master.

For awhile he lived his dream.

I love the name the Souix gave him watching him "dance" with Two Socks.
