I saw the pain decide for you...

Silent Witness

by Y. M. Roger

Behind The Door Contest Winner

I peered at you
      from behind the door

You, at whom they’d laughed
      and called a whore

            Behind that veil
            Your skin so pale

As white sands along
      the sandy shore...

I saw as the tears
      fell from your eyes

Hurt from their
      accusations and lies

            It was no joke
           And your heart broke

As pain was reflected
      in your guise...

But then I watched
      your defiance soar

A choice of red silk
      for your encore

You’re dressed to kill
           And I felt the chill

As your anger rushed past
      my hiding door. . .
