Compassion

by Pamusart

I thank you mom; you made me strong.
Your hands and mouth heaped such abuse.
'Cuz no one else could come along,
and make me feel so damn obtuse.
The image that you made of me.
by telling me that I'm not worth,
as much as even just a flea;
I've heard it since my day of birth.

Thank you Dad; you gave me strength.
You tortured me with stabbing words.
And, you would go to any length
ensuring I would be disturbed.
At least I had some company.
My siblings also felt your sting.
I'd rather that you'd let them be,
than see the sorrow your words bring.

I thank you mom and you, dad, too.
I've gotten over childhood screams.
I real-ize now your words weren't true,
and managed still to find my dreams.
I'm happy now and you're both dead.
I will not cry nor even feel.
I plan to think of life instead.
That stuff you did's no longer real.

To spread compassion is my goal.
It's something I will freely give.
I now can help another soul
escape the past and fin'ly live

Having tough times will either break you or make you stronger. People who have suffered tend to have compassion and empathy for others
