Carolyn, my friend, left today-with no announcement or
Hint of a plan.
I knew she had been feeling
Melancholy
That had cast a pall
Upon the air.
But still, I did not prepare
For her absence...
Or was that non-action
A figment of imagination
Swirling in the cloud of denial?
Sheer white curtains swirl now-
No longer a fact; denied.
Carolyn is gone.
The books of the voracious reader
Stacked between puzzle boxes
And picture albums were teetering on the floor.
The lovely colored pictures and
Framed puzzles hung in uneven angles from the walls.
One more look around the room.
It will no longer be Carolyn's.
The last visions of her never enough
To fill
A friendship's
Memory.
