Grandpa's Ashes

by Nanny 6

Kathy devotedly took care of her father during his battle with cancer, while her three older sisters constantly bickered over their dad's inheritance. He'd never respond when they'd ask where he hid the jar of gold that had been in the family for generations.

The day he took his final breath, they raced to his house, while Kathy, with a grieving heart, stayed back and made the final arrangements.

On her way home, she stopped at her dad's house and found it totally ransacked. The only thing left intact was Grandpa Goldman's urn, on the mantel above the fireplace. She quietly took it down as her sisters argued relentlessly in the back room.

"I'm taking grandpa's ashes," she hollered.

"Who cares, Golden Child!" They scoffed.

When Kathy got home, she put the urn on the table and pried open the lid. Inside, amongst grandpa's ashes, was the jar of gold.
