Watching My Dad

What Not to Be

by LoannaLois

Daddy left us yesterday
my Mom thinks we don't know
but Bubby came to comfort me
we both knew he would go.

For years we heard them fighting
he hit her every day
we thought that she should leave before
but Dad said she would pay.

Bubby tells me not to cry
and Mommy holds me tight
it's just that I don't understand
just why do parents fight?

My friend Sally's Dad left too
they took her Mom away
so now she lives with Grandma Ruth
and that's just not o.k.

I've been praying every day
that God will help us live
my Dad said he's not coming back
and I just can't forgive.

I told Bubby that some day
when we are parents too
that we would treat our kids with love
we'd know just what to do.

Until then, I guess I'll try
to stop feeling so blue
and now I've learned how not to be
I've learned we just get through.
