Chicago Tonight

by RodG

Yet another senseless Summer weekend shooting, but this time near the Water Tower at dusk. The Crime Scene Unit was there, the ambulance was just departing, and I was questioning my first witness, a middle-aged woman in a green dress.

"He's dead? I saw the . . . bag being loaded." Her face was paper white.

I nodded. "See anything else?"

"Yes . . . the bullet hit his chest."

"That's up close. You know the victim?"

She nodded. "My ex-husband. A hateful man. He was stalking me again tonight."

Trembling, she reached into her purse and pulled out a gun.

"You'll want this."
