Cinder's Can Burn

by Roxanna Andrews

Cinderella's father brought home a new bride.
Sadly, six months later, daddy died.

Leaving Cinder with Step Mom and two sisters.
They worked her so hard, she often had blisters.

One day she decided she'd had enough,
she refused to take anymore of their guff.

"Bippity, Boppity, Boo, and Fiddledeedee!
I've no Fairy Godmother, so it's up to me!"

She packed her belongings in an old flour sack
walked out the door and never looked back.

A gold candle stick taken from home,
helped to secure a business loan.

"Cinder's Chimney Sweeps" got lots of contracts,
so many to clean, of work there's no lack.

The money rolls in, with the rich she hobnobbs.
Then one day the stepsisters came looking for jobs.

They swallow their pride, it stuck in their throats,
hating that Cinder finally got their goats.

It seemed they'd spent every cent and needed the work.
You know that 'Fate,' it has so many quirks.

Step Mom and sisters downsize to a bungalow,
It seems they hadn't heard, you reap what you sow.

Step Sisters, "Oh, the dirt! The blisters! I'm so tired!"
Step Mom. "Hush, you fools! Do you want to get fired?"

Cinder has to smile when she hears them grumble.
How the mighty have fallen, it's so hard being humble.

Now she's the one going to fancy dress balls,
she's always ready, in glass slippers, when the prince calls.
