A villanelle about the coming battle

The Arresting Hook

by Henry King

Michael drew his sword and said It's War
Joshua told this story first while in his nook
Gabriel's horn blast on Peace shut the door

Jericho's walls felled sinners to the floor
The Word from God was all it took
When Michael drew his sword and said It's War

Good men could feel it from Galilee's shore
When at God's Voice the ground shook
While Gabriel's horn blast shut the door

Gods Wrath man should not ignore
God's Word should've been the arresting hook
When Michael drew his sword and said It's War

Lucifer's disciples lie and like lions roar
Because men without care just stand and look
Will Gabriel's horn shut Peace's door

Some men want blood and death more
than to live the life told in God's Book
As Michael draws his sword and says It's War
Gabriel's horn again shuts Peace's door

Rhyming Poem contest entry

Recognized

An airplane assigned to an aircraft carrier has an arresting or tail hook which catches the cable stretched across the landing deck that will stop the airplane.

A Villanelle is a rhyming poem of six stanzas. The first five stanzas are tercets and the sixth stanza is a quatrain. The rhyme pattern: A B A in the tercets and A B A A in the quatrain. The Villanelle's first and third lines of the first stanza are repeated alternately as the third line of the second through fifth stanzas and as the third and fourth line of sixth stanza. In this poem, I altered those lines without changing the rhyme pattern or vision.
