Love takes effort if you want it to last

A love to last a lifetime

by Blue Hendrix

When Love begins everything seems fresh, like the first drive in your new car.
From a date to a movie, or dinner at a restaurant rated 5 stars.
It's like winning the marathon your first time running the race.
Or the way the warm ocean water feels the first time it kisses your face.

As the years pass love gets a little comfortable like your favorite pair of shoes.
Harder to maintain but the easiest to choose.
You stop trying as hard to impress or satisfy.
It gets mundane day after day, so you just comply.

But, if you stop trying to do those special things love can go to a darker place.
Remember dark places and actions you can not always erase.
You have good intentions on just going out for a drink with a friend.
But, that leads to other roads that don't have a happy end.

So keep love and your partner first on your list.
Kiss them everyday like it's your very first kiss.
Make things interesting have dates and send flowers.
Stay up all night and talk for hours and hours.

Don't just sit like a block of cement in your big comfy chair.
Waving the TV remote in the air.
Love takes work and it needs to be a priority.
That's why long relationships these days are in the minority.

But it's worth a little extra effort and thought.
To grow old with that person you truly love, your soulmate can't be bought.
Enjoy each other 100% each and every day.
Love is an amazing blessing, be thankful God made it that way.
