A dream to relieve unrequited love.

Underwater Fantasy

by HarryT

In my dream, I’m running along an ocean shore
Trying to purge unrequited love from my soul
Jog onto a cement pier that juts far out to sea
As I near the end, I stop entranced at what I behold
A beautiful young mermaid with a body of blue
She beckons to me, offering a goblet of gold
Drink of this and your soul will be free
Drink of this and we will be together forever
With a lilting smile she offers the cup
I take it with trembling hand and drink my fill
My head clouds, my body swivels into the sea
Unexpectedly sprouting gills and a flipper tail
She takes my hand, downward we plunge
Joyfully she takes me into the watery deep
She brings us to a wondrous city under the sea
Within ensconced is Poseidon, brother of Zeus
We bow before him, he raises his trident over our heads
“You are one, eternally wed, in my kingdom under sea.”
I awaken, shaken by this undersea fantasy, and wonder
What will be...
