It's a Hell of a Town!

New York...New York...

by Artasylum

Dancing thru Times Square
a cacophony of Taxis honking here.

A Manhole rattles--a train clacks to a screech;
Hissing steam rises to tickles my sandaled feet.

The city's first beat, a trash truck's squeaky brakes;
followed by the rig's noisy, crashing take.

A Verizon worker next to me shouts down a passing car--
The driver gestures obscenely back; he's dying to spar.

The hook-and-ladder's rumbling along its chaotic trek.
My little sister is next to me, craning her curious neck.

In the distant alleyway a jackhammer powers on,
ratting and tatting the concrete 'till it's gone.

A woman cries out, 'A thug just stole my purse.'
Running right by me, he shouts an incoherent curse.

People passing by me, words spouting from their mouths.
Smiling, happy to be here, I'm quiet as a mouse.

The purse snatching that I witnessed didn't go exactly as I say...much to my sister's dismay I went running after this teenager who sprinted like a gazelle...so I'm running after him yelling stop thief...guess what, no one stopped him... just as I lost sight of the creep I found two beat police...but alas all they could do was take the woman's statement... she was from Iowa. I have no idea what i would have done if I actually caught this guy...probably not one of my better ideas...but it was all part of the experience
