Coming Home

by June Sargent

Rain subsides and skies begin to clear.
Birds break out in song and cheer -
dodging steam from the old locomotive.
I hear the whistle bellow and echo
throughout the spring green valley
and my heart skips a beat.
My son is coming home at last -
where he can rest in peace.
