A scorpion stings a little girl

The Scorpion

by Pamusart

I saw my mom the other day
my fear of her's still holding sway
A scorpion stung me at age five
I'm lucky I am still alive
My arm swelled up to three fold size
I'd so much pain and swollen eyes
it's poison put me into shock;
don't know how long; I had no clock

I hid behind a box outside;
was so afraid to come inside
She'd beat me for my getting hurt
and I was such a little squirt
my dad had yelled when I cried out
don't be a baby was his shout
She told me not to bother her
or lots of trouble would occur

Believing this was really true
I could not breathe; was turning blue
it fin'ly started hurting bad
I did not care if she got mad
She picked me up to my surprise
I hardly could believe my eyes
She called the doc and took me in
there's still a scar upon my skin

My arm was soaked in lots of ice;
could not believe that she was nice
The doc gave me the antidote;
reduced the swelling in my throat
As for my arm it took so long
to shrink and once again be strong
The finger for my wedding ring
is scarred and makes my finger sting

I cannot wear a wedding band
it hurts and itches on my hand
That day was bad; I paid the price
I never thought that she'd be nice
It happened for the second time
by then I knew there was no crime
The swelling started like before;
quick treatment made it swell no more

No other time did I get love
I thanked the stars from up above
That was the only time like this
I think I even got a kiss

My mother was very abusive. New neighbors had just moved in next door and there were a lot of empty moving boxes outside. I had been told not to bother my parents or else I would be whipped with a wire. When I first got stung I thought it was the biting ants. There was a thick yellow fluid on the ants. The scorpion had killed them and also gotten me. I screamed from pain. I thought still that the ant had bit me. My dad came out and asked what had happened. I said that an ant bit me and he told me to stop being a baby. After that my arm swelled up to three times itâ??s normal size. I was hiding behind one of the boxes crying from the pain. I finally got to the point where I had to take the chance. So I went inside. My mom picked me up and sat me on the kitchen counter and she called the doctor. She had noticed that my breathing was labored even though I could not tell. The sting was on the ring finger of my left hand where I would wear a wedding ring. But due to the scar, anything touching it makes it itch. So I cannot wear my wedding ring. At the time I went into anaphylactic shock. I was having trouble breathing but I did not know it. I only felt the tremendous pain of my arm. I was so surprised I did not get whipped for bothering my mom. To this day that is the only time I felt she cared about me. She was actually nice for several days and took me with her everywhere. It might have been to show off my huge arm. She had me show it to everyone. Well I survived and here I am. You all have a good day.
