What if . . . ?

by A. Willow Bends

What if . . .
No one lived in Alabama, it was bitter and the skies were gray?
My true love filed bankruptcy on the 13th day of Christmas?
James Taylor saw only fire OR rain?
Birds were forbidden on the other side of the rainbow?
I weren't a picker, grinner, lover or a sinner?
Jeremiah wasn't actually a bullfrog?
This land wasn't yours or mine?
You completely overlooked seeing your brother standing by the road with a heavy load from the seeds he sewed?
Cindy Lauper was colorblind?
Michael Jackson actually was the father of Billie Jean's son?
John Mellencamp was born in New York City?
You chose to NEVER love the one you're with?
We could prove we consist of substantially more than just dust in the wind?
It is NOT really all about THAT bass?
Johnny Cash had hearing problems and was jailed nowhere near a train track?
Mary was never proud?
What if ? Just imagine it!

Free Verse writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Please write a free verse poem. Any topic. No rhyming patterns.

Recently on Facebook, my friends and I have been responding to a post that I find absolutely hilarious. The following is NOT mine, so I cannot take credit for it, but a great example: What if . . . Tom Petty backed down?
Another, also NOT mine: What if . . . the Hotel California had no vacancies?
I am basing my free verse on MY responses to What if . . .?
IF you allow your mind to go with THIS, it is relaxing and just funny. I hope you enjoy! It may not be poetic, but this is free verse, so wanted to share my thoughts with you. :) Sometimes we need to break away from reality and just be silly!
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
