Soul Searching on a bluff

At the Bluffs

by Pamusart

A common daisy waves at me;
it's blown by breezes from the sea
the air is fresh and smells of brine
I sit and wonder if you're mine
I see a boat with billowed sails
and children putting sand in pails
The sand is wet and used to build;
I see their castles from this field

The ocean's waves come crashing in
the structures stand and children grin
This field is on a windy bluff
that overlooks some rocks and stuff;
Emotion's hard to figure out;
my mind is having quite the bout
you were supposed to meet me here
but you've been calling her "My Dear"

We sent the children down to play
we meant to spend some time today
our oldest daughter starts to cry
she's watching siblings towel dry
they'd waded out about three feet
and now watch birds find crabs to eat
For tiny crabs there's no escape;
the plovers eat with mouths agape

The children cannot see me cry
our love has died and so I sigh
I can't go on without your love
I feel the warmth of sun above
I step across the daisy field
I must go on; my fate is sealed
I watch our children on the shore
and know their past will be no more

Their frolicking is tempered by
their oldest sister who knows why
She's heard our fighting all too 'oft
through whispering of voices soft
Her father's gone; I'm not to blame;
and I refuse to play that game
I wear my best darn smile right now
the only clue's my furrowed brow
