was getting ready because very soon,
his puppy Jake was going to get a checkup,
to make sure he was a healthy pup.
Jake sat in his lap as mom drove to the vet,
he would stay by Jake's side so he wouldn't be upset.
As he stroked Jake's fur and cuddled him close,
his mom said Jake needed Robert the most.

sat patiently with his mom in the waiting room.
Jake wagged his tail at the other dogs and cats,
who were also waiting on their families laps.
An old lady saw Robert staring at her cat,
she asked if he would like to give her a pat.
Robert smiled as he stroked the cat's soft silky fur,
and giggled as the friendly cat started to purr.

helped keep Jake calm in the examining room.
The veterinarian lifted Jake up on the table,
Robert wanted to help if he were able.
As the vet checked out Jake's ears, nose and heart,
mom lifted Robert up so they wouldn't be apart.
As the vet gave him all of his proper vaccines,
Robert thought "Jake's the bravest dog I've ever seen."

was glad the exam would be over soon.
The vet said Jake was growing up well,
and he would be a very BIG dog, she could tell.
As they rode back home Jake licked Robert's face,
and Robert pulled him into a warm embrace.
Robert couldn't wait to get home on this bright sunny day,
so he and Jake could go out and play.

was getting ready for bed in his cozy bedroom.
Mom was proud that Robert helped Jake at the vet,
and for making sure he didn't get upset.
Mom turned on Robert's batman nightlight,
gave him a hug and said goodnight.
Soon Robert drifted off to sleep,
with his furry best friend curled up at his feet.
