My husband and I fight envious feelings. We're winning!

Eternal Envy

by A. Willow Bends

An infinite binding chain of want is envy
He wants what she has
She wants what he has
They want what everyone has
not solely the materialistic either
but jealousy rears it's ugly head
as desires lean towards those who are unhealthy for us
thus the cycle, the chain of discontent
continues . . .
the wheel spins much like roulette . . .seldom a winner
we let impulses overrule
"the school of thought" to be content
THAT train left the station in a bygone day
made it's way elsewhere
Some drown in debt to appear the prosperous person
then sweat the night away
in fright of losing pace in the rat race
losing face in front of peers
sad, needless fears
Needs? We have them. Yes.
Wants? We crave them.
Addictions beyond our means
displayed with a sheen,
a lacquered silkscreen of false prosperity
My neighbor must not have more . . .abhor the thought
We have fought to think differently.
We are winning.

Deadly Sins writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a poem that involves one of the seven deadly sins

My beloved husband and I are NOT keep up with the neighbor kind of folks. We love yard sales and Goodwill shopping for things we actually need and sure, we pick up impulse items there from time to time, but we know we are at an age where minimizing would be wise. Hey, THAT rhymes! Please do not review author notes! :)
