Decurt this!

p.s. Please note: I have to add this totally unnecessary additional comment, as otherwise the dictatorial FanStory software tells me "too short to be posted." I regard this as a severe infringement of my civil liberties, and my right to freedom of expression. Please lobby your local member of parliament to have this draconian law changed. There! What do you think of that, Fanstory Editor???

Today's word: decurt (v.) to shorten; to abridge.

Is anyone else wondering why, if "curt" means brief, or short, then "decurt" doesn't mean to make longer? I guess it's the old "flammable/inflammable" argument, all over again.

My much-treasured Christmas present for 2017 is a book by Paul Anthony Jones: "The cabinet of linguistic curiosities". Each page contains a descriptive story about some obscure or archaic word. It occurred to me it would be a fun exercise to try and write, each day, a poem featuring the "word of the day" from the book.

Thanks for reading.
