An owl on the hunt

Whooo

by Pamusart

"Whooo, whooo" says the owl who looks at the moon
"Whooo, whooo are you?" as wolves start to croon
The owl starts to hunt; the moon is so bright
He needs to await the cover of night
From prey that he's caught, the mother and brood
will eat up their fill of freshly caught food
His foraging done, he heads to the nest
with one final meal now staining his breast

A tiny young sparrow fell from its nest;
this poor little bird, the owls will digest
He catches small birds; for that he must fly
along with the mice for whom he must dive
Success will depend on cunning and stealth
In order to hunt, he must have good health
We must not regret the deaths of his prey
as long as we want the hoot owl to stay

Predators have to eat to survive. Most of us root for the prey in every chase. Maybe because there was a time when we were prey. But, if the prey escaped every time, the predators would die out. We do not want that, so we have to respect the need for food. If owls did not keep populations down, mice would not have enough food to eat since there would be so many of them.
