Barb is happy again
A chapter in the book A Life In Your Pocket
The Bonnet

| Background Barb and John have just had a baby girl. Barb feels like a prisoner at home, but one day her husband brings her a second-hand push-chair so that she can take Poppy out for walks. |
'My boss gave it to me. It's second hand, but looks practically new,' John told his wife.
'It's wonderful, I'll be able to go out of the house again,' she said, all her woes momentarily forgotten.
'And Poppy will get some fresh air.'
'That as well... I need to buy her a bonnet. I cannot let anybody see that head of hers.'
John winced inwardly, but didn't say anything. He realized Barb was tired and hormonal, what he didn't realize was that she did not have a maternal bone in her whole body.
'Let's buy that bonnet, then,' he said.
