Spiritual poem

Gifts, Graces and Fruits

by dovemarie

For nine days I read a Novena,
Recited the Rosary and the Salve Regina
I prayed for the gifts of the Spirit's descent
He lifted my spirits and asked me to repent.

His sacraments in which He manifests
Are Baptism, Confirmation and Confession
Lots of times I've failed His tests
And gone into moods of regression.

This Pentecost Day
I will keep the Devil at bay.

Spiritual graces are actual and sanctifying,
They tell me what I must do to be God-pleasing,
They clothe my soul by purely glorifying.

Fortitude is what I need the most,
I beg for it from you, Most Holy Ghost.
I fall into temptation, and cannot arise
The gift of Courage will make me wise.

Virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity
Will bring to my mind new clarity.

Spirit on the Rosary is an overshadowing --
Anunciation, Jesus' Baptism with dove descending,
And Mt. Tabor's transfiguring
Jesus and His friends far from the crowd,
Enveloped in a light-filled cloud.

The Spirit will cause my Tree of Christianity
To form strong roots,
With His glorious gifts, graces and blessed fruits.

Pentecost Poem a couple of days late. I celebrated the Descent of the Holy Spirit in the Catholic church, the vigil, on May 19 - the actual day was May 20. Thanks to booklotto for artwork.
