Winds blowing through life

Stirring Winds

by Henry King

A sweet gentle waft of mother's breath
The strong and rhythmic beat of her heart
Made us seek life with no wisp of death

Steady swift breezes gave us knowledge
We learned our reading writing plus math
Primary secondary college

Labor's gusts paid for our sustenance
Love's zephyrs engendered family
Life's gales hammered in experience

The drifts of time turned our hair to snow
Our last breath is near - a subtle nudge
It's time for wind stirred stories we know

This is the first poem I wrote on a theme. It was selected to open, Stories Stirred by the Winds of Time, An anthology of student writings; William Leonard Cummings, Editor; Senior Citizens Writing Class, Judith Vasquez, Instructor; El Paso Community College, El Paso, Texas; 2016; ISBN 978-1530865987.
