The Swollen Creek Regatta

The Swollen Creek Regatta

Some years it just don't come at all, other years it may strike twice
When it comes just ensure you go, don't miss, that's my best advice
All the folk 'round here go when the frogs come alive with chatter
The 'vent I'm talking 'bout of course, the swollen creek regatta

Most times the creek bed's as dry as the Sahara in mid-drought
Only takes an inch of rain before the rescue team's called out
Rain drops always cause panic and the crowds are quick to scatter
'Cause brollies ain't never took, to the swollen creek regatta

The drinking starts around breakfast time, the best time of the day
It can happen any month but will most likely come in May
See all the big strong country lads, the lean, the plump and fatter
All trying to win a heart, at the swollen creek regatta

The women they all get dolled up, aiming for the best dressed prize
With make up on and a brand new dress that hides their big round thighs
When the winner is announced old friendships they tend to shatter
Winning is what counts for most at the swollen creek regatta

The day draws to a close and the drinks have taken full effect
Shirts are off and ties undone and the ground's slip'ry and suspect
Gals are falling and brawling and the mud then starts to splatter
The mud wrestling's the highlight at the swollen creek regatta
